Pastor Adam Phillips

Adam Phillips is pastor of Christ Church: Portland.

It is Adam's primary vocation to lead with others for Christ-centered community with a focus on spirituality & social justice.

He and his wife Sarah, a public educator & administrator, moved to Portland in 2013 to plant Christ Church, a new faith community in the Rose City.  

Most recently, Adam served a number of roles in advocacy and international development groups, working with organizations such as The ONE Campaign, Bread for the World, Micah Challenge and World Vision. As senior manager of Faith Mobilization at ONE, Adam worked across faith traditions and political backgrounds to advocate efforts to end extreme poverty and treatable, preventable diseases like HIV/AIDS and malaria.

Adam also served as the project consultant for Covenant Kids Congo, the first of its kind partnership between World Vision and a denomination. Assisting in the mobilization of the denomination’s churches and partners, Covenant Kids Congo powered by World Vision continues to provide area development projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo for economic development, health, education and spiritual growth.

Adam earned his BA from The Ohio State University (International Relations, 2002) and M.Div from North Park Seminary. Adam was ordained by the Evangelical Covenant Church in 2007, and co-pastored the revitalization of Resurrection Covenant Church in Chicago from 2006-2008.

“A New Evangelical Manifesto: A Kingdom Vision for the Common Good” (Chalice Press), published in 2012, included Adam’s chapter on fighting poverty with the global church as partnership. Adam has also appeared on CNN, and has been published by Sojourner’s “God’s Politics” blog, "Red Letter Christians," a blog edited by Tony Campolo and Shane Claiborne, Relevant Magazine, and The Covenant Companion.

Adam was a delegate to the Third Lausanne Congress on World Evangelization in Cape Town, South Africa in October 2010. He is also a participant in MESA: a global conversation amongst emerging leaders, with Brian McLaren, Steve Chalke and others, attending its convening event in Bangkok, Thailand in October 2013.

Sarah Phillips is an educator, leader, and incredible partner. They enjoy good food, good music, and good soccer. They live in north Portland.
