Open. Active. Inclusive.

About Christ Church: Portland

We're a new church taking root in Portland for God's glory & neighbor's good...

We are a new church in Portland doing our imperfect best to have the kind of faith, courage and room to be our imperfect best. Following in the way of Jesus, we hope to be a church that includes all (no matter who we are, what we think or where we come from) while trying to be focused on the things people of faith have been actively pursuing for thousands of years.

Namely, we think that the way of Jesus is about love, compassion & justice, that people and society can change & grow, and that to have centered, healthy lives we need to be about action & contemplation.

Some may call this holistic. Or integrated. Or progressive, we just think it is what it mean to be truly human.

Our Ethos shapes who we are as an open, active & inclusive Christ-centered community. We are about these five core values because they are at the heart of who Jesus was and how he showed us to be truly human: Inclusion, Equality, Relationships, Hope & Perseverance.

We meet at 11am at Rose City Park United Methodist Church, near the Hollywood neighborhood at 5830 NE Alameda St, Portland, OR 97213.

Each week we meet on Sunday morning, but if our community has any other public events scheduled we'll post them here.

We're only as strong & sustainable as when we have others who stand with us...

We are a new church start committed to God’s glory & neighbor’s good. In 2015 our parent denomination, The Evangelical Covenant Church severed ties with us over LGBTQ inclusion, cancelling two years of promised funding, fundraising support, and coaching. We were devastated but continued on and were able to survive that setback because of the generosity of others. Your gifts and financial support are received with incredible gratitude, they are secure, and are tax-deductible. Thank you!

There are a number of ways you can give to Christ Church.

All people means kids too!

We care about your kids. Our ethos of Equality, Inclusion, Relationships, Hope & Perseverance guide what we do and how we do it at Christ Church, including how we connect with kids. We see them as a vital part of our community, not “just kids”.

When we say ALL PEOPLE at Christ Church, we mean kids too. We see them not as empty vessels to be filled up with what we think they need, but as already whole beings. We equip and encourage our teachers to help kids wonder about the big life questions--- walking alongside them & giving them tools to access the still small voice that already lives inside them.

What to expect:

On Sundays you can start at the Kids Check-in table located right outside the narthex by the main red doors (Alameda side of the building). Leaders will help you check-in, answer any questions and show you where to go. We have an awesome Kids Team of volunteers who lead our kids each week. All volunteers have completed a background check.

Nursery: Our nursery is available for children 6 weeks-3 years old for the duration of the service. Our nursery staff have external experience working with infants and toddlers.

Kids 3-11: start out in the service and take off to children’s church after the kids blessing. Kids break into groups of 3-7 year olds and 8-11 year olds. Kids will come back to the service at 11:50am to share communion with their families if chosen.
