Ernie Banks of the Chicago Cubs is forever remembered for saying "Let's play two!" when it came to a doubleheader in baseball. This Sunday - I'm preachin' two. And I couldn't be more excited about it.
Join us Sunday morning, 10am at First Christian Church (1314 SW Park Ave. Portland, OR 97201) for worship. Our friends at FCC have been incredibly generous with their hospitality and love in these difficult days as we've lost our denominational support and funding. I have the privilege of sharing a word from their pulpit this Sunday. (And what a pulpit it is - the sanctuary is incredibly beautiful!).
Lent has always been a powerful season for me - a season where our days literally "lengthen" as Lent and Spring collide; a 40 day journey of examination and discernment on the way to Easter and resurrection. Lent seems to be the exact moment we as a church are invited to lean into what God might be doing in our midst, despite the heartbreak.
And the Scripture this Sunday is a bit of a doozy: before Peter gets the keys to the kingdom, he and Jesus get into a bit of an argument, they call each other names ("get behind me Satan!") and Jesus talks about capital punishment [Mark: 8:31-38].
I hope you can join us, meet our new friends at FCC, and lean in, together, in what God is doing this Lent. And if you're up for the second service, we'll be meeting as Christ Church: Portland at 4:30pm, too.
