What do you say to a church plant that is less than three years old sending three families to help start a new church plant less than 7 miles away in the same city? Crazy? Thank you?
No - we say: That's right.
St. Johns Covenant Church, our friends up on N. Columbia Way, this past week celebrated their 2nd Annual Meeting by looking back at 2+ years of ministry in mission in the St. Johns Neighborhood of Portland. There were ministry reports and budgets to be shared, potluck and prayers, and people gathered living out what church can look like.
In concluding their Annual Meeting, St. Johns Covenant sent three families and prayed over the whole Christ Church crew, blessing us to go and start a new church.
We won't be strangers. We'll gather for mission, ministry, potlucks and prayers in the future. We hope for churches that will be neighborhood-oriented centers for community. Places where we can sit with each other and share stories, places where we can pray and sing with one another the Story of God, and places where we can roll up our sleeves and get to work seeking the common good.
We're thankful for partners in the journey.... here we go!
